Not too long ago, we at ZBM were using plasma as our sole method of precision-cutting. While this method had served us well for many years, we knew that we needed to update our cutting system. It seemed that taking the leap to the much newer laser technology and its features was the obvious choice, so we did.
While we did not feel that our plasma table was obsolete, seeing these machines work side-by-side was definitely eye-opening. Watching the laser dash from cut to cut at a dazzling pace while the plasma slowly and methodically followed the same cutting specifications—it was a no-brainer. We knew the choice to go with the laser was the right move.
What does this mean for us and our customers?
It means we can now cut up to 78" x 157" sheets of material (e.g., 1" mild steel, 1" stainless steel and 3/4" aluminum) at incredible speeds and with much greater precision than that of the older plasma-cutting systems.
Our next step in our overall plan is to add automation, which is already in the works.
